Are you #JustGettingStarted in your latest career? Join in the conversation today to challenge stereotypes and preconceptions about older workers
Today 25 April, Business in the Community is asking you to get involved with our #JustGettingStarted social media day during its Responsible Business Week (#RBWeek) to raise awareness of the potential for all us of us to have multiple careers in life, no matter what age we are.
We want to highlight the skills that older workers bring to the workplace, and celebrate employers that are committed to retaining, retraining, progressing and recruiting older workers. We want you and your employer to be part the conversation. Simply tweet your ‘just getting started’ story, and ask your employer to share how they are supporting older workers.
Share your story by tweeting #JustGettingStarted
Make sure you include the #tags #JustGettingStarted, #RBWeek and @AgeBITC.
You can download our communications pack that contains example tweets that individuals aged 50+, and employers, can use. The pack also includes a template for businesses to use to create case studies and posters that tell the great stories from older workers within their workforces.
Here are some ideas and keywords to help inspire you to tell your story, and for employers to find their older role models:
- New internal role with a new skill set (reskilling)
- Individual with carer responsibilities or a health issue and supported to achieve progression at work
- Recruited into a new company
- Set up new business, e.g. franchise owner
- Retrained for a new career
- Mentoring responsibility
