The Championing an Ageing Workforce Award
This Award recognises businesses that are adapting for the future in responding to our ageing population and intergenerational workplaces.
Our population is ageing: 10 million people in the UK are over 65 years old. The latest projections are that in 20 years’ time there will be five and a half million more older people. This number will have nearly doubled to around 19 million by 2050. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the world's population over 60 will double from about 11% to 22%. This is creating demand for new products and services.
Longer working lives will become normal, as will workplaces and teams that span up to four generations. This is a new challenge for responsible businesses that want to maintain fair and productive workplaces.
The Championing an Ageing Workforce Award identifies those businesses that are responding to these emerging needs and in turn are maximising the business’ resilience to a growing ageing workforce. The Award is one of Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards.
The Business in the Community Diversity Benchmark measures age, gender and race workplace diversity. The benchmark is a management tool to help organisations evaluate their performance, including peer comparisons, and inform evidence-based decision-making around workplace diversity.
